Born in Long Island

Postby danar » Thu Mar 04, 2010 3:14 pm

All of my family was born in NYC, but I was born in LI. I ordered my BC through VitalCheck and according to their website they always send certified copies, but I don't think this is quite the same thing as having it certified by the country clerk. I'm also not sure where to send it if it does need to be certified by the county clerk. I called the Suffolk County Town Clerk and they said they don't handle these requests. Anyone out there who had to go through LI to do this?

Long Island is not part of NYC so the letter of exemplification and certification by the county clerk is not required. Simply send your long-form certified do****ent to the state office in Albany or NYC for apostille.

They won't apostille the BC without certification of the country clerk. I know LI is not part of NYC and true, it does not require a letter of exemplification, but it still needs county clerk certification before getting the Apostille.

I was also born in Long Island (Southampton)! I ordered from VitalChek and was sent the long form of my birth certificate which I got apostilled from Albany with no problems at all. In fact, I got it back with apostille only two days after they received it, they're very fast.

If you obtain a certified copy in long form, which I ****ume you have done, you simply send it out for apostille. No additional certification is needed.
